Sanku Datta Mudi (India)

I am doing PhD in Soil and Environmental Chemistry, specializing in air quality issues in Louisiana. Besides my research, during ‘spare time’, I would like to take part in cultural activities, play ping pong, going out with friends, listen songs, and watch movies. First time I came to know about International Cultural Center (ICC) from my friends. After that, I use to go to ICC very often to enjoy different cultural activities, delicious foods and most importantly to mingle with peoples from different countries. ICC is a place which actually gives us the essence of different cultural practices, different social attributes, and different human viewpoints. So, it builds a very good communication skill to interact with people from different parts of the world. After working hard for five days in the school, spending fun-time in ICC over weekends is not only an enjoyment but also gives us enough fuel to tanked up and ready to go for next working week. So, on a bottom line ICC actually gives us the feel of home away from home.

I am really interested in serving the president post for ICC and ISA. As a governing body, my main objective will be the welfare of international students and involve them in exploring their skill and talents. Through the channel of ICC, we definitely can collect funds from different places and can organize very strong educational and cultural activities. The fund will also help us to address different socio-economic problems of international students. In coming academic year, ICC will try to participate in almost all social activities inside LSU campus and give very good time to the students.

With this letter, I expect to give a better, prosperous and eventful academic year to all international students.

I remember my first day on the LSU campus and I remember how much help I received from the international community here. Even after settling in, the international community continues to aid hundreds of international students on campus. For this reason, I see it as a great achievement to work with this organization.

I would like to become the ISA treasurer because I believe that I have the ability to create analytical budgets, I am a very careful person, especially when it comes to money, and I work very well with other individuals. I see these three qualifications to be important when it comes to working with financial obligations in a respectable organization such as the ISA. I think that I will be able to contribute a lot to this organization and be able to work well with the new executive board, whoever these individuals may be.

Experience in student organizations:

  • Community Service Chair, National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) - January 2013 to Present
  • Vice President, African Student Organization (ASO), LSU - April 2013 - Present
  • Program Committee, International Student Association (ISA) - August 2012 - Present
  • Cohesion Committee, Freshman Leadership Council (FLC) - August 2012 - August 2013
