Traveling without hassle in Baton Rouge

A Guide to the CATS website

As an International Student you might find you cannot sight-see, nor can you shop in Baton Rouge if you don’t own a car or don’t have friends who own cars. There is a free, simple solution to this problem, if you don’t mind a little waiting.

So what’s the answer? You can ride in a CATS (Capital Area Transit System) bus to go see the sights around the Baton Rouge area, shop for all the things you need and don’t need, and much more.

When you go to the Capital Area Transit System Website you will see all the routes that are covered by the CATS buses. They are located on the left hand side of the webpage. When you browse, an important thing to keep in mind is that the main bus terminal is at the intersection of North 22nd street and Florida Boulevard. . In all the maps they have listed, CATS notes it as "The Terminal" or "N22" or "Florida & N22". All the other important destinations/places (malls and other shopping complexes with nice places to visit) are given on the maps. Please take a peek at the maps before you try to take a trip.

Now, the question is how to get access to the main bus terminal @ North 22nd & Florida Boulevard! We can take the route #46-47-Highland which is one of the Baton Rouge local routes. This goes up along Highland to Florida Boulevard .

On the LSU campus routes web page you’ll see many different bus routes (and they are nicely color coded!) that come to LSU from the surrounding Baton Rouge area. The phone numbers to contact the Office of Parking, Traffic, and Transportation are also listed at the bottom of the webpage. So even if you live a little off campus, you can use one of the routes to get to LSU and take the 46-47-Highland route to get to the main terminal. Once you hit the main terminal, you can basically go any where in Baton Rouge . Bon-voyage!
